How To Make A Solitary Bee House From Raised Bed Off Cut In Time-lapse
Solitary and Masonry Bees pollinate more flowers than honey bees and are our friends and if you have vegetables in your garden or you have an allotment you should building houses for them. In my previous video I showed how to make a home for over 130 bees from a beam off cut that I retrieved from a skip, from a raised bed build.
Sadly the holes turned out to be too rough, and although the bees are capable of chewing through concrete and bricks, they were disinclined to climb into the houses rough holes. So in this video I set out to smooth them. As with the previous video I decide to do the main work in time-lapse to a fixed1t crafted version of "flight of the Bumble Bee" I created in Apple Garageband to go with it. Its well worth a watch and a great conservation and green protect to help Bees who are in decline and an endangered species, if they die off so will we! For those who get bored with my explanation of what I'm doing and why? Here is the time window so you can go straight to the time-lapse music.
There are links to the original video and the unboxing of the woodturning iron in the video.

This blog contains a number of simple money saving solutions I have discovered to potentially expensive repairs or replacements. For Example: Cleaning of the shower mould using domestos grot buster saved me hundreds of pounds, and the fact that it keeps the mould out of the caulk saves me hours of additional cleaning.

How To Freeze And Store Carrots To Save Money And Prevent Food Waste
Food waste is a major problem world wide and also waste the people who buy it a huge amount of money. So anything we can do to reduce food waste whilst saving us money is a great thing, right? So here is a tip my wife devised to save us throwing away huge quantities for carrots we never got around to eating before they became inedible.
You may ask why did we buy more than we needed, well its cheaper to buy in bulk than in a few small packets that never seem to have enough in for a weeks shopping. This is a great tip and follows on from our really successful 'Mushroom Freezing Tip' which you will find here https://youtu.be/knn5NdTFG34 or linked at the end of this video.

fixed1t MONEY SAVING tips
Have You Noticed That Some Fairly New Rechargeable NiZn (Nickel Zinc) Batteries Won't Recharge After Just A Few Uses? Its really infuriating when you've thrown away the receipt or you bought them online and the won't take them back. But all is not lost thanks to fixed1t. This video is in two parts. Please watch the entire video and remember
In Part 1 - Of This Video I put This To The Test
In Part 2 - Of This Video I'll Show My fixed1t Solution
WARNING: You Must Not Put NiZn Batteries into a normal charger for more than a few minutes unsupervised as they will be destroy and may cause a fire.
Charge NiZn Batteries in a dedicated NiZn charger
I do not recommend you do this fix, the video is to show only what I have done, you do this at your own risk.

How To Replace A Toyota Keyless Car Fob Battery
My car was giving me warnings that the battery was low, luckily it was the Key and not the main Battery, so here is how I replaced it on my Toyota Avensis. I saw a couple of videos that should people dismantling the fob completely which is a really bad thing to do, the more you break it down the bigger the risk of breaking it during breakdown or rebuilding. My view keep it simple as these are incredibly expensive to replace. Malcolm aka fixed1t #fixed1tMONEYSAVINGtips

Your Gadgets And Toys Are Being Destroyed By Their Batteries
Sadly, I've just found that I have badly damaged a Classic High Value Wowwee Robotics RS Media Robot by accidentally leaving a set of Zinc Carbon Acid Batteries in it.
After discovering the damage one set of batteries had done, I set about opening every battery powered devices I could find, below is a picture of the large bag of dead and leaking batteries I have put out for recycling. As you can see some are cheap carbon acid batteries whilst others or apparently Alkaline batteries.
THINK! When Was The Last Time You Checked The Batteries In Your Gadgets, Toys or Remote Controls.
If its more than a few weeks, you need to check them again.

Cheap ZINC Carbon Batteries inherently leaky
Cheap Zinc Carbon Battery Leakage
Leakage is the main issue. The zinc case corrodes as part of normal operation, and if it corrodes through in one spot, corrosive leakage occurs. This is a good reason not to use these batteries in high value electronic goods.
Remove batteries if they will not be used for a fair length of time. Running them 100% flat increases the chance of leakage.
Metal damaged by corrosion, such as battery contacts, can be scraped to remove most of the corrosion. This usualy makes the appliance work again, but corroded circuit board tracks are usually corroded completely through by leakage, killing the appliance. Repair of corroded circuit board requires scraping, washing and soldering wires on to replace the lost tracks.
Zinc carbon batteries frequently have a clear plastic film wrap applied to help contain some leaks, don't remove it.
If a lumpy surface is seen under the plastic film, the zinc case has almost corroded through and is about to leak, and the battery should be disposed of.
One way to avoid damage from leakage and thus enable use of low cost batteries is to use an external battery holder, plugging it into the appliance. This works well enough with 9v types, which use a snap on genderless connector.

Are Potato Grow Bags Better Than A Compost Bag For Growing Potatoes?
I've been growing potatoes in specially purchased 'Potato Grow Bags' for many years. The crops aren't particularly large but they are delicious and its very easy and rewarding to do and something that the kids could do with a little help and supervision.
Growing Potatoes is simple, they are:
Easy to plant
Easy to maintain
Easy to harvest
Taste Great
The costs are pretty negligible:
Potato Grow Bags
Fresh Compost (from a garden centre)
Rotted horse manure (often free at a local stable)
Potato Tubers (potatoes)
The main cost items are the Potato Grow Bags and the bags of compost.
This year I started the chitting and planting process with 4 new Potato Grow Bags and put three chitting potato tubers in each bag. After planting the tubers in the bags, I realised I had a number of spares left over and rather than throw them away, I thought it would be interesting to grow the remainder in the empty plastic bags the new compost came in. These bags tend to be very thick painted on the outside by most importantly Black and None See Through on the inside. I planted them all at the same time, using the same feed and water regime and harvested them when the plants had died back leaving thick white stems sticking out of the bags, within a few days of each other.
Although not a scientific experiment, in this way I could see whether the planting bag made any difference to the crop yield, i.e. if you got more potatoes for the extra cost of the 'Potato Grow Bag' versus the black painted compost bag.
The first bag I harvested was the Potato Grow Bag
and below is the link to the video:
Sao what about the potatoes in the compost bag?

and below is the link to the video:
Harvesting Home Grown Potatoes From My Potato Grow Bag
After brushing the loose earth of the potatoes I weighed them, the black plastic compost bag delivered a crop of:
1406 grams of fresh potatoes (just over 3 lb)
Sao what about the potatoes in the compost bag?
below is the video:
Harvesting My Potatoes From A Compost Black Bag
After brushing the loose earth of the potatoes I weighed them, the black plastic compost bag delivered a crop of:
1245 grams of fresh potatoes (just over 2 lb 7 oz)
1406 - 1245 = 161grams (just over .35 lb)
There the using the potato grow bag increased the yield by just over 11%.
Therefore, from this casual experiment I concluded that the potato grow bags are better than black plastic bags for growing potatoes, but given the sized of the crop, and the additional expenses of the bags, it is more cost effective to grow the potatoes using the Compost Bag than it is to invest in specialised Potato Grow Bags.
